The best thing about living on Lancaster’s central streets starts on day one: you can step off a train and walk to your front door. Here is the whole journey, down to the last few hundred metres.
Lancaster station sits on the western edge of the city centre and the bus station on the northern edge, and our streets are between them. The station is a six to thirteen-minute walk from Queen Street, King Street, Penny Street and North Road, with King Street nearest and Gregson Road around twenty. The bus station is two to four minutes from our North Road homes. With a term’s worth of luggage, the taxi rank at the station entrance beside platform 3 exists for exactly this day. A direct train from the airport’s own station in as little as about an hour and ten minutes, from early morning to late evening.
From Liverpool John Lennon Airport
A cheaper flight into the wrong airport.
No direct rail link. The established route is the airport bus to Liverpool South Parkway and a train north with a change, so allow noticeably longer.

Manchester Airport is the practical international gateway: it has its own railway station inside the terminal complex, with direct services to Lancaster from early morning until late evening. Land, clear arrivals, and you can be at Lancaster station without changing trains — then walk, or take a taxi from the rank, to the house. That single-connection journey is worth more on a first arrival than an hour saved anywhere else.
If you are booking with us from abroad, the arrival is the easy half; the tenancy is the half to get right early. Ask about video viewings of the actual property, and never transfer money for a house you have not seen, from us or from anyone.
Move-in day itself
If the family car is coming, plan the kerb before the day. Most central student streets are permit-controlled, so unload in one attended trip and ask us about the specific street in advance. If a second car has nowhere to go, Lancaster’s park and ride on Caton Road is the calm fallback rather than circling the block with a boot full of bedding.
Once the boxes are in: photograph every room and the meter readings on day one, test the heating and hot water, and report anything you find in the first week rather than living with it. The condition record made now is what protects your deposit at the end. Then go and find the market. Campus is already solved — Lancaster University reports at least 14 buses an hour between the city and Bailrigg on weekday daytimes in term, and that corridor starts near your door.
