The best thing about living on Lancaster's central streets starts on day one: you can step off a train and walk to your front door. Here is the whole journey — from wherever you are starting — down to the last few hundred metres.

Arrive by train. Lancaster station is served by direct Avanti West Coast, Northern and TransPennine Express trains — about two and a half hours from London, under a quarter of an hour past the hour from Manchester, and around one hour ten direct from.
Lancaster railway station to our streets is a six-to-thirteen-minute walk — King Street nearest, North Road and Queen Street just behind. With a term's luggage, the taxi rank at the station entrance beside platform 3 finishes the job in minutes.
Lancaster sits on the West Coast Main Line: direct services from London, Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow and Edinburgh, run by Avanti West Coast, Northern and TransPennine Express. No connection anxiety on moving day.

Lancaster bus station is two to four minutes from our North Road homes, and the university reports at least 14 buses an hour between the city and the Bailrigg campus on weekday daytimes in term — so campus is solved the day you arrive.

Manchester Airport is the practical international gateway: it has its own railway station inside the terminal complex with direct TransPennine Express services to Lancaster from early morning until late evening. Land, clear arrivals, and you can be at Lancaster station without changing trains — then walk or take the rank taxi to the house. From Liverpool John Lennon Airport there is no direct rail link; the established route is the airport bus to Liverpool South Parkway station and then a train north with a change, so allow noticeably longer.

If the family car is coming, plan the kerb before the day: most central student streets are permit-controlled, so unload in one attended trip and ask us about the specific street in advance — and if a second car has nowhere to go, Lancaster's park and ride on Caton Road is the calm fallback. Once the boxes are in: photograph every room and the meter readings on day one, test the heating and hot water, and report anything you find in the first week rather than living with it — the inventory record made now is what protects your deposit in June. It is the simplest arrival route for international students by some distance; from Liverpool John Lennon Airport, by contrast, allow substantially longer via a bus link and a train change.
For a campus visit, buses run from the city to Bailrigg on a corridor the university reports carries at least 14 buses an hour on weekday daytimes in term — around three miles. If you are moving into one of our homes first, walk to the house from the station and pick the bus up near your own street afterwards; the bus station is two to four minutes from our North Road homes.
Your tenancy start date is the anchor — arriving a few days before freshers events begin gives you time to do the inventory properly, register with a GP, set up the food shop and learn your walk before the city fills up. We confirm your start date and key arrangements in writing well before the day, so the only surprise left is the weather.
Most central student streets are permit-controlled, so plan a short attended stop at the kerb, unload in one trip, and ask us about your specific street before the day. Comfortably — that is much of the point of living centrally. Direct trains reach Lancaster from London, Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Manchester Airport; the stations are a short walk from our streets; and the campus bus corridor, covered by Stagecoach's UniRider passes, handles the daily commute. Most of our tenants never need a car in Lancaster.
